More flowers! Washington state is tulip central in the spring. I bought about 30 flowers today for 10.00!
Today it's gorgeous out! Here in the pacific northwest, grey days are the norm until July 5th (ask any local:) so EVERYONE is out today.. where are my sunglasses?? I feel like mole coming out of a hole!
A warm weather vacation is in the works so I'm trying to eat clean and green so I will be ready to shed some of the cold weather layers and enjoy a sundress and shorts.
Green powders can be a great way to add a little boost to your favorite protein shake or smoothie. There are lots of supplements available to give your body a dose of extra nutrients. Today I am using Dr. Alejandro Junger's green powder and fiber supplement in my protein shake. This green powder is filled with all kinds of nutrients and is priced well. On days when I'm running out the door with a long day ahead, I add a little of this green powder to a smoothie or protein shake to help keep my energy level high.
MODERATION
If I've been eating more than I should, rather than panicking and attempting a starvation diet, I make a few changes and my body adjusts in time..patience!
Following a complicated diet and denying myself foods I enjoy has never worked for me.
Replacing animal protein with vegetable and whey protein, along with following a whole food meal plan is a recipe for success.
My weakness.. freshly baked chocolate chip dough cookies AND wine. It's okay if I mess up a little here and there. I'm NOT perfect and I just get right back on it.
Go easy. Take baby steps and the outcome will be better.
In Washington state we are all about the environment. Many grocery stores ask that you BYOB {bring your own bag} or they charge you 5 cents per bag.
My BAGGU
BAGGU filled with fresh vegetables.
Two years ago I jumped on the band wagon and started buying BAGGU. These are sturdy bags that can carry a boat load of groceries and you can even throw them in the wash! I have them in all different colors and they make fun gifts for friends.
Isn't the blue and white stripe darling? The black is chic!
A healthy body is well fed .. and WELL EXERCISED.
Isn't the blue and white stripe darling? The black is chic!
A healthy body is well fed .. and WELL EXERCISED.
Working out can be a pain so I try find ways of making it fun by mixing things up a bit and calling on friends for support. You all know I'm a huge fan of trail walks with my girlfriends and family. The hills are great for toning the back side and keeping it from heading south!!
A variety of studio classes are great to add in too. The energy women have as a group is contagious and we all support each other.
Nike shoes are cute and come in fun colors. Ryka mid tops are my favorite when I'm in a studio and I need more ankle support.
I have found that the older I get the more I need exercise.
Plus .. I'm one of those type A crazy people so I really do need to get out there and sweat. After a good walk or work out I am better able to concentrate, feel energized, and have a more productive day. A work out 4 to 5 times is all I need, otherwise I start drinking too much wine (not kidding!).
These shorts look cute over leggings (on those days that I don't want my painfully white legs to show).
I like the look of a little bit of muscle (not the extreme weight lifter look .. just a little definition) Women are NOT meant to big stick figures!! We have curves and muscle is beautiful, a sign of good health in my opinion. As a woman I enjoy the feeling of strength in my arms and legs.. to lift my urn filled with plants, a BAGGU filled with groceries, and to move my furniture! Young moms need strength to carry their children and mature women need to lift their grandbabies.
I've just finished a great class at the gym and I'm ready to replenish with a fresh juice. Care to join me?
My favorite green drink!
2 stalks of celery
4 or more handfulls of fresh spinach
2 kale leaves
2 apples
1 lemon
1/2 inch piece of ginger
1 heaping Tablespoon of fresh parsley
1 small carrot
Serve over ice or straight up!
(Today I am wearing a crop wrap and roll down pants by Hard Tail Forever)
CHEERS!
I also wanted to share a health related post written by my beautiful friends at The Buzz Blog. It's called No Thank You Bites. Click here to read it!

Lovely tulips! I like smoothies, especially for breakfast. Have you tried the chia seeds yet?
ReplyDeleteChia's great. You can also soak overnight in a little water to release starch and use as an egg binding substitute in cakes that might contain carrot or banana and wholemeal flour. :)
DeleteThanks for the great recipe. Tilips are truly the best.
ReplyDeleteLeslie beautiful flowers! I like big bouquets too, I live near tulip's plantation :)
ReplyDeleteSpring is the best moment to take care of our contidtion. You give so many disciplining advices... My husband is a big fun of healthy life. He likes natural supplements and brings home some strange specyfics, like natural sugar: stevia. I'll show him Your post, he also has his own blog about sport, good health, etc. :)
We had first breath of spring here and I was walking a lot, but now winter comes back :( and for me is difficult to put the nose out of my home ;)
Now I can only ride on my stationary bicycle :)
Good Sunday and good active week :)

Good morning beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWell, on March 6th, it was my 31st wedding anniversary and I got a GORGEOUS bunch of white tulips. Aren't they just elegant? I love the bunches you got and the photos you take are superior! I am finally learning to use my new camera to get these quality type photos.
I love your philosophy and approach my friend.....little changes at a time, or any change is TOO OVERWHELMING. Before you know it, certain foods or drinks are not as appealing and you may even find yourself having less and less of them. Juicing is a great way to cleanse and refresh. We have an ACME juicer and put in carrots, green apples and a beet. TALK ABOUT CLEANSING; beats are great to clean out the liver!
Exercise, good foods and REST and TRANQUILITY are a good recipe for a happier life, that is for sure! I love the new look of your blog my dear! Anita
Always enjoy hearing what you have to say Leslie...always full of good information and any friend that says chocolate chips and wine are part of her diet is soooooo a friend of mine, lol!
ReplyDeleteI too am on a diet, ugh, hate the word. I have never been a "juicer" but have a few friend who are really into it and I am considering buying my first jucier, any brand you recommend? Do you drink them to replace a meal or as a supplement for vitamins? Thanks for the recipe....agree with you there is little to compare to the feeling of when you are eating well and exercising...just wish I didn't loathe exercise:) But with spring and summer around the corner, I definitely feel more motivated!! Have a great Sunday!
PS Happy to see the little blue and whites always getting to be a part of your posts, they look mighty happy!
Hi Tina,
DeleteMine is a Cuisinart that I bought on Amazon. Juicers can also make smoothies and run 4 or 5 hundred dollars. They are ALL bulky and need to be cleaned afterwards. I say this because people often don't use their juicers because they don't like the clean up.
I do NOT replace a meal with a vegetable/fruit juice. This juice today was used post workout to re-hydrate and give my body extra nutrition. Some liquid cleanses include moderately high calorie shakes that supply the nutrition and calorie count that your body needs to loose body fat THE RIGHT WAY. That's reasonable however many people feel deprived after a while and aren't able to continue. In my experience, people fair better when then approach weight loss as a gradual process with life style changes that are made permanent.
Hopefully this helps!
xxleslie

Happy Sunday Leslie! My best friend lives in Seattle so I know all about your weather and I'm jealous she was out gardening yesterday while we received another foot of snow on Friday. But thankfully we can still hike and just got home from hiking Dylan on a new trail that has been opened up by the snowmoblie club. I love your tulips and they've just started to show up around here in stores. We always take our own bags out shopping not sure why everyone doesn't. You and I would get along famously as I have a bit of a wine addition too, just bought two cases yesterday so if you get thirsty.....

Hi Leslie~I just love your videos-your personality really shines through. I too have a beachy vacation in the works (next month) and you are really inspiring me to get on with the exercise. I love juicing-have been slacking lately since our juicer is one of those that takes so much time to clean-seeing this fresh juice makes me want to run right out and get some greens. My recipe is exactly the same as yours and it's a refreshing, well balanced healthy drink. My biggest issue is time right now. I'm working 4 days a week (sometimes 5) as a School Psychologist, developing (and just did a redesign!) of my online Stylemindchic Boutique, and trying to keep up with blogging. I'm going a little nuts. Way too much time in my office and not at the gym. And a reminder that when I get up, put on my workout clothes, head to my home office and work until 'wine time'....it doesn't count as a work out just because I'm wearing the clothes. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the perfect reminder girlfriend!
xx, Heather
Leslie, I always appreciate your spot on advice. And especially as it is tasty and good for you at the same time...!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a lovely Sunday,
Heather
Good morning Leslie!
ReplyDeleteA GRAND MERCI for coming to leave a comment; my post today is very unlike my usual VISUAL posts. I am taking a risk of losing the interest of those that prefer pretty pictures, but I wanted a change. Thank you my dear for your kind visit.
And yes, I LOVE my white tulips!
Smiles, Anita
I have tulips all over my house right now
ReplyDeleteThey are my favorite flower, sadly they are not as inexpensive around here as where you are
I have a few Hard Tail yoga items, I enjoy them immensely
Have a great weekend
Brett
I also love cookies, and wine! Fortunately I also love broccoli...Caroline
ReplyDeleteI started exercising and eating more veggies. I am in love with your tulips. This is a great post again. I have a sweet tooth so I understand about eating too much. Lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for the vist :)
Xo
Good for you! I've been trying to eat as clean as I can lately - actually I decided to after reading your post a little while ago about dairy allergies. I've cut back as much as I can on dairy & gluten and it's made a difference. I feel better and I'm starting to lose some of the bloat. :) I've switched coffee creamer for almond milk and I'm getting used to it. It's getting better! I'm big on the veggies these days and even Hubs has started to come on board too.
ReplyDeleteYou have me up and moving now. I have a layer of insulation to get rid of. Love the post! Bonnie
ReplyDeleteforgive me if this is a duplicate comment--mine disappeared!
ReplyDeleteyou look fabulous and are inspiring me wit yer raw green lovely potions. i am slowly getting back to the gym and feel great when i push myself with the cardio and then unwind in the sauna and steam.
i have been making g-free choc chip cookies that even the kids eat...maybe a video how-to!
love to you.
michele
Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteAnd cheers to you! I really enjoyed your post on healthy living.
I too always enjoy my early morning walk and try and get in exercise about five days a week. Also love making banana and berry smoothies and juicing whatever is in the fridge.
Doesn't ginger make a great drink with apple, carrot and celery, great liver cleansing, after too much wine.
Your white tulips are pretty and we have the policy of BYO, bring your own bag too.
Wishing you a happy week
hugs
Carolyn
Leslie, I'm about this
ReplyDeleteclose to buying a Vitamix,
when I consider the
possibilities of what I
can create! I am totally
onboard with everything
you write, here....it's all
so important, even the
indulgences : ) Need to
check out a few of your
recs. Happy Sunday!

Love the videos. Thanks for sharing the juice recipe. Might have to try it while everyone else is away this week! Finding a hard time balancing what I want with what they (He in particular) like. Since hitting 40 (a few years ago) the pounds have come on despite my efforts.Getting a bit discouraged. The tulips are beautiful. I just purchased some yellow lilies and love them...quick pick me up.
ReplyDeleteYou got me all motivated here : ) If tomorrow is not raining heavily, I want to have a good fast walk, for lunch I have the fresh veggie soup already : ) Then I will be on a business trip in Istanbul, will enjoy my parents food and some business dinners out, so no diet for few days but when I am back home, want to do more of these things : ) And your tulips are gorgeous, I wish also here in Italy they were so inexpensive, fresh flowers are not so accessible here. Have a lovely week : )
ReplyDeleteLeslie... The Mister has a shake like yours every morning and tries to talk me into one. I was watching your video and he walked in and asked why I was writing the ingred. down when he could make me one just like it. I politely told him that I want to look like Leslie not him! Fabulous post. Keep doing the videos. Love the flowers and all the blue and white.
ReplyDeleteYour juice does sound pretty healthy! I have to say I am interested in trying it.
ReplyDeletethose tulips are gorgeous! love the workout clothes you posted here too.
ReplyDelete-- jackiejade.blogspot.com
Your kitchen looks like spring with all those gorgeous tulips! Yes, it's that time of year to kick it into gear, thanks for the inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteYour tulips are a stunning colour and would match the purple and orange accessories in our kitchen! Just looking at the list of ingredients in your juice is already making me feel healthy!! I love the addition of ginger in a juice and the sweetness of apple so this is definitely one to try and I loved the video too.

Hi Leslie...not sure if you will get my note 2x now, but something happend as I was publishing it...and it may have gotten lost...so here it is again(:
ReplyDeleteAdorable Tulips!
Love your juice recipe and having said that, I wonder how you juice spinach leaves etc. as I am not able to get any juice out ot them or other leafy greens, that is why I resorted to making veggie/ fruit smoothies...drinking one now(:
Our son lovest them too...got the Vitamix blender and love it as it is even easier to clean up!
Can you tell me how to juice the leaves? (: MY juicer is great, professional and Breville ... but can't figure it out...it must be me!
hugs z
ps will get on board with the shopping bags!
Hi!
DeleteThe spinach leaves WILL juice. I usually add about four or five BIG handfuls. You can see the green color in my video if you look closely. Your Breville should work perfectly for juicing. Mine is a Cuisinart that I purchased on Amazon.
Let me know if you are still having problems and I'm happy to help if I can:)
xxleslie
Thank you Leslie, I will try it, I may have just not put enough... hugs Z
Deletep.s. I am trying to type the human verifications...but they have gotten harder to read even for humans! I have done it now about 10 times and can't send it off to you ...hope I manage!
Hi, Leslie!! I hope you are doing well. Just got back from Europe, and boy, did we over eat. The food in France and Belgium (especially the sweets and pastries) divine! Thanks for sharing, as always, your secrets and recipes for healthy living. Now that we are home, I want to get back to a more sensible program of food and fitness.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Loi
Hi Leslie...I am enjoying the videos...almost like Giada! Do you like your juicer? I am trying to decide which one to buy...
ReplyDeleteLove the tulips...it feels like Spring is on its way! xoxoxo
Hi!
DeleteYES! I do like my juicer. Regardless of how much you pay and the type you purchase, they ALL are fairly large and there is cleaning involved. I say this because many people don't like to bother with juicing because of the hassle factor. Amazon has many to choose from and you can read reviews that may help you decide which one is best for you:)
xxleslie
I loved the purple in the beginning - I bought a necklace in that color yesterday. Baggu bags are so great aren't they? I love the striped one. And I'm with you on the exercise front - though I'm not curvy, I'm one of those "stick" figures that you mention, I've always been petite. Never had a big anything. But I am healthy, I eat well, I exercise. Though the misconception is rife - if you're thin you aren't as healthy as people who aren't. I'm continuously surprising people because all my routine health checks come up with great results. I think we should just embrace the body we have and look after it. Have a great week Leslie! xoxox
ReplyDeleteWashington State sounds like a cool place. I've heard it is beautiful there, with lots of art and culture. I think i would struggle with the gray days though. I can tell by the light in your photos that the sun is just shining it's little head off when you took them! Love those high top tennis shoes... i need ankle support to, so glad to know of a good brand of high tops. I really like your big ole grocery carrier too. I have a basket for groceries, but i always forget to bring it in!
ReplyDeleteCindy
What gorgeous tulips! As spring approaches and we start our seasonal cleaning, we should remember to cleanse our bodies as well. Thanks for the reminder and for the juice recipe Leslie!
ReplyDeleteRowena @ rolala loves
Such lovely flowers! Tulips are one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI love juicing, too! Sometimes I get busy and don't do it enough, but I always feel so great when I get back on track. You look so great in the video! Thank you for inspiring me to live a healthier life.
My favourite combination chartreuse - the juice - and purple -the tulips! Beautiful photos here, lovely
ReplyDeleteOh your juice drink looks amazing and the tulips are just gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI've just purchased the magic bullet...hoping I enjoy it even more than my juicer. We'll see! Heading over to see your link...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Leslie, nice changes to your blog. We had a juicer and never used it. I probably would use it now. I wonder where it is? Cute workout clothes.
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteLove the lovely new look to your blog. I really enjoyed all the inspiration to eat well right now!! I am going to try the shake and also the sage raviolis. Both look so good. You are adorable in your kitchen!
xx
Kim
Oh so fun to meet you today! Love the juicing idea ... I haven't done this before ... but your video is inspiring! Wish we had tulips here in New England ... a month away (I am hoping we'll get them soon!) xo
ReplyDeleteI wish we lived closer because I know you would motivate me. Think I need to sign up for a class. I did my DVD workouts but the DVD broke. If I sign up w/ a friend I will be forced to go. I agree, small steps to dieting!! xo
ReplyDeleteI always do better when I'm with a friend or in a group exercise class. The most difficult part is getting out the door. I always (recommend)start with walking (hills if possible:) because it helps get the heart rate up, it's low impact and you can go with a friend and use it as a social hour. I'm thankful I have Layla because she is a pain until she gets out for a walk .. forcing me to go!
Deletexxleslie
Beautiful post filled with such healthy food and exercise tips as well as encouraging and motivating! Love those tulips!!
ReplyDeleteJemma
Your posts are amazing...every time I come to your page it's better and better.
ReplyDeletei juice every day - i usually juice for me 'dinner' - i'm ALL about clean eating - and girl you look AMAZING!!! - i need to add more yoga to my workout to add more 'tone' to my body - but i DO need to lose these med pounds first before i can tone - but i'm getting there !
ReplyDeleteI love this post! My goal is to buy 100% fresh produce from either growing myself, farmers markets, or doing a CSA. I've heard about the green smoothies and I can only imagine how many nutrients are packed in! This one looks amazing. I walk my dog for about 30 minutes to an hour every day, but lately I've been having problems with my joints!! :( (makes me feel old, haha)

PS. Cookies & wine = my weakness too!!
Live tulips! They used to be my favorite flower till I was introduced to hydrangeas! Lol! Live your juicing video! You look great and that juice looks so healthy! XO
ReplyDeleteBtw, I forgot to say - love your new masthead, that white skirt is an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYour blog make-over is so pretty. My husband and I both juice. Actually, the blender we use chops everything so fine it's like juicing. We never use a recipe so I'll be interested in trying yours. Love tulips. I'll have to look and see what's out there now. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat great advice, Leslie, and we're definitely trying Dr. Junger's green powder and your juice recipe for our spring cleanse. Thanks so much for the shout out; we're saying yes please to juicing and moderation this spring!

So true about eating in moderation! I hate those fad diets, they are insane and never work because people can't stick to them long term. Cookies are delicious, who wants to live without them? It's okay to eat them, maybe just not a dozen in one sitting ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat advise...as I get older you realize how important it is to eat healthy and exercise.
ReplyDeleteA little bit of sun and warm weather is like an angel coming to visit. I too feel the need to get moving and drinking green and eating fresh~ thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeletepve
I need to exercise!! Or I hit the hit the wine too!
ReplyDeleteLove all this inspiration and advice, I need to get a juicer too! I do love healthy food but sometimes I'm in a rush and pick, hoping to change that,
Thanks!! Karolyn
I am on a health kick for a beach bod that will never happen again. But..it's better than giving up! I'll feel good on the inside!
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteThis post came at the perfect time! We just returned from a family trip to Disney/Universal. Whew...lots of fun but healthy food was not to be found. I feel like I needed a complete purge. I managed to get to my favorite spin class within hours of touchdown and that made me feel so much better. And a green smoothie. I need to learn to juice but in the meantime love doing a spinach protein smoothie with maca powder, chia seeds and bee pollen. I sometimes at greens...and this label is new to me. Will have to check it out.
And, of course I'm eyeing those gorgeous tulips. Lucky you to have them so plentiful at such great prices!!!
Cheers!!
xoxo Elizabeth
Good morning sweet Leslie!
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming to my post. I realized that just posting poetry without pictures was not a good idea; I lost half my readers for that one!!!!!!!!! Oh well....a post is prettier with the photos.
I wish you a fabulous day. It is FRIDAY! And I am off to teach today. I hope spring is showing up at your doorstep! Much love, Anita
Those tulips are amazing! You are so blessed. I went looking for tulips yesterday and there was slim pickings. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day rock star!

We have been juicing daily for the past two months..absolutely love it. Both hubby and I compete to come up with new recipes. It's a great way to get your fruit and veggies every day. BTW kale + green apples + celery + lemon + cucumber is my favourite, the golden green colour is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteOk back to say have a lovely weekend and I am getting a little obsessed with your masthead - that white skirt!!!!
ReplyDeletethe tulips are gorgeous! and that juice looks pretty tasty too. have a great weekend.
