I'll make you a fresh espresso .. or maybe a cup of tea.
I picked up some goodies at my local bakery and they are still warm.

"Hi, Leslie ~ Glad to see this Q&A back. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have so-so skin....and do not see a dermatologist....have never, either. When I don't get enough sleep, I seem to break out. Is there a connection between lack of sleep and breaking out? And I'm 41 :)"I do enjoy when I see men taking care of their skin!
First, find a Dermatologist in your area and get in for a full skin exam. We should have one every year or so to have all those little marks and moles evaluated. Some look harmless but can be dangerous!
SLEEP is very important and will work wonders for tired skin. Lack of sleep will accentuate your lines and may create a darkened or puffy appearance around the eyes. There is probably is no connection between lack of sleep and "breaking out" ~ it's likely more of a cleansing issue.
Glycolic cleansers ( a sugar based product) may be an option for you as it has a mild exfoliating effect that may help with the breakouts. Glycolic will also help lighten discoloration post acne or from sun damage.
I'd ask your Doctor to recommend a glycolic product and then test it out .. watch for sensitivity. I usually start my patients on a mild glycolic wash and then increase the strength if tolerated.
Those folks blessed with a gorgeous olive complexions are more prone to discoloration or "brown spots" than their fair skinned counter-parts. For this reason, sunscreen is very important to wear daily and even on a cloudy day. Try different brands and look for one with matted formulation such as SkinCeuticals Sheer Physical Defense 50.
..gorgeous dress! I love the detail. Speaking of lovely.......
hi leslie.
such a wealth of great help here! i am on a gluten free diet this week to see if an allergy is causing some of my health issues. i am wondering if one of the benefits of eliminating gluten is healthier skin?
Allergy testing can be done to determine if you are gluten intolerant. Some people may not test as "allergic" but have symptoms such as bloating, poor digestion, or various skin issues.
Eliminating ALL products containing gluten MAY help. Some people that are boarder line sensitive may still be symptomatic. A reduction in gluten containing products may offer relief in specific cases.
Check your natural foods market for wheat/gluten free alternatives.
Most folks can get by eating less bread and pasta but I will also say that whole grains are high in fiber, nutrient dense, and probably shouldn't just be cut out of the diet for experimental purposes.
Trouverlesoleil #linesallowed is about celebrating natural beauty at any age. Kathy Sue is over 50 {I'll let her tell you her age..you'll never guess it} and looks radiant. What I love about her is the natural look she has. Her confidence and the sparkle in her eyes, a great hair cut and her black glasses finish the look!
Stop by her blog and check out her tried and true skin care products and she's also doing a room update that is going to look amazing when she's finished!
Something sweet? .. lets have a bite of chocolate!

"..my eyes look tired. How can I get rid of the lines and puffiness?"
The lines around the eyes are the most difficult to treat (I think many Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons would agree!)
I don't want to say that a good eye cream won't help .. but what it will NOT do is get rid of wrinkles. I know.. bummer, right? Anyway .. KEEP using it because the eyes need hydration like everything else and the older we get the more they need. If you are sensitive stay away from fragrance in your eye cream and make sure it's not getting IN the eye.
Baggy lower lids, dark circles, etc.. can be improved by staying hydrated, watching coffee and alcohol consumption, and SLEEP. The lines to the side of the eyes (crows feet) will happen over time. There are noninvasive tightening treatments that can be done in medical offices. Although pricey, they do help.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend! Watching the game? Might be a good shopping day:)if you don't care for football.

Hi Leslie! Thank You for comment. It was the first thing I saw after waking up :)
ReplyDeleteI like Your series about variety problems with health and beauty. I agree with You, that style of living and food are more important for good looking than facial cream. I love Your film! It was a pleasure to see You and Your daughter on line :) I confirm that You are beautiful women!!!!
Yesterday, for the first, I read about a structural diet found by polish doctor Marek Bardadyn (I know, this is hard to pronounce this surname ;) I'm very interested in.
I wish You beautiful Sunday!
marta
Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing a great post - so much good advice here and I loved the video of you and your daughter.
Your pretty pink roses are beautiful and the perfect colour for Valentines day.
Happy Sunday
Hugs
Carolyn
Good morning Leslie!
ReplyDeleteI am so comfortable here with your this morning. I can almost smell those pink roses AND the warm treats from the bakery!
HOW IMPORTANT it is to get rest. I have to admit that I eat well, exercise regularly and take care of my skin, EXTERNALLY. But I know I do not get enough sleep. On that note, I think I am going to treat myself today to a nap....which comes off the heels of your blog post about two weeks ago now.
You really got me thinking about some quotes or thoughts rather, from an author you were reading. The subject was about taking BOREDOM and turning it into an opportunity to take in a moment of peace. I was charged up about doing a post on this, but got diverted toward Valentine's Day! I just wanted to let you know how your blog has resonated in a very special way with me. We all want to know how we can take care of ourselves and the "chats" we have here are much appreciated and so warm.
Have a fabulous Sunday and thank you for the lovely reminder. And Kathy Sue is super! Anita
Ah we don't have the option of finding ourselves a dermatologist here, we have to go to our GP's if we are worrying about medical skin issues such as moles etc and then wait for a referral, I've always envied the US woman and her dermatologist trips!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great series Leslie. I am hitting 40 this year and trying so desperately to hang onto youthful skin:). My problem right now is the lack of sleep:(. My three year old likes to keep me up at night, still. This shall pass, I know:). Thank you for the advice! Have a great Sunday! Oh btw, I love Michelle's blog!!!
ReplyDeleteI knew it! I knew the eye cream wouldn't stop the wrinkle process...my issue is that I am starting to see some brown spots on my eyelids. Not sure how much darker the pigmentation is going to get.
ReplyDeleteAlways inspiring! I'm a devoted eye cream user and hope to retain some firmness in that area (at 42 I'm holding fairly steady), but will add that personally I'm loving the few little lines that have appeared over the years. I don't hope to look 20 anymore. I hope to look healthy!
ReplyDeleteInteresting bit about eliminating gluten from the diet in the case of digestion issues, skin issues, etc - I have been looking up information about this recently as I think I might have a sensitivity to gluten and dairy. I think the biggest issue for me would be giving up creamer for coffee (or finding a substitute).
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the advice! So nice of you to share your knowledge with us! I always learn something new here. Hope you're having a good weekend, Leslie!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon sweet friend! Thanks for coming by today! I feel really bad that I do not have a new blog post up, but now that I have illustrating to do for cards, I cannot seem to find the very important time to write! AND THAT IS MY FIRST PASSION! Arrgh!
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, thank you for coming by to say hello. Anita
Wonderful post Leslie! My three year old is a picky eater and I've been trying to keep him on a gluten free diet too. He has eczema and also has skin flare ups. He will be visiting the dermatologist, but in the mean time, I have been eliminating gluten from his diet. Love all the invaluable information regarding the skin too. Happy Sunday! xx
ReplyDeleteLove to read all your Q and A!! If I have a question I will come back to you!!
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteThis is great. I loved the video on how to make spa water and tips for eating healthy. Your daughter is darling...you look very young! I really enjoy reading the tips on various skin questions/concerns.
Thank you.

Hi Leslie! ReplyDeleteI can't wait for your next video!
Hugs z
Oh, Leslie! I needed to hear about spa water!!! I have dark circles (a trait in one side of my family) and lines under my eyes that make me look older than I think I should! I do drink lots of water... and lots of coffee. I'm going to try to wean off of the coffee! Thanks so much for this great post.
ReplyDeleteBTW you are absolutely radiant!
Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteSuch great subjects in today's very interesting post! Loved the video of you and your daughter, so natural and simple to follow. Thanks for inspiring us!
Poppy xo
Leslie, First off how gorgeous are you two? I loved hearing your voice and see you having fun with your daughter (I have 3 step-daughters and it's become even more fun as they have grown into their mid 20's). I love spa water and do the lemon regularly. Cucumber is just so spa like that I must remember to keep it on the list. Thanks for all the tips~at 51 (ehhh) I need all the reminders I can get. I might add that sleep, even when I'm in bed for 8 hours, is NOT always easy (hot/cold/restless). Any tips for a great night sleep??
ReplyDeletexx, Heather
Hey girlfriend.. I'm 53 so I totally get it..hot flashes and all. That's what this blog is all about:) Celebration of life. I'll be talking about the sleep thing at some point!

Good sleep would be wonderful. I should give up staying up late reading blogs! x
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I loved it. I do need more sleep really. Happy Monday doll xx
ReplyDeleteLots of sleep and plenty of water - you are absolutely right. I know I should drink more water but I find it so so boring!! I shall follow your suggestion and try adding cucumber or fruit. I thought the video was such fun and so natural.
ReplyDeletehttp://missbbobochic.blogspot.co.uk/
such a great post, and cute video, leslie! tfs:)
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie, such a great team, you and your daughter. It made me laugh, when you asked your daughter to read the question...where's your glasses?
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestions. Drinking plenty of water is always great and plenty of sleep.
Thanks for your lovely video.
Great reading. As I have incredibly puffy eyes this morning I was more than interested to read this. (ski Goggle marks plus dehydration) I think water and loads of cream does calm them down but as you say the wrinkles are still there for the loving.
ReplyDeletegreat advice--who doesn't have issues with their skin?! I can't wait to hear the gluten free week went--I know its done wonders for so many!

This is one of my favorite features on your blog Leslie cause I really feel like just pulling up a chair and getting a dose of pretty pictures (thanks for sharing one from my blog) and great advice from you. I switched to a glycolic toner last year and I can't believe the difference it's made. It's like having a vacuum cleaner for my pores.
ReplyDeleteHope your week is off to a lovely start!

Hi, Leslie - Thank you for all your advice!! I will definitely find a dermatologist and book an apt. And I'll inquire about glycolic cleansers. I have been using white dove soaps and sometimes a moisturizer like Olay during the winter. I think a professional examination is in order. Thank you again, my friend!!

All great advice...thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHello! I came accross your blog and I have just spent the longest time going through your post and had the best time!
ReplyDeleteYou both are so beautiful. I love this water idea. Now I'm off to fill a bowl with fruit like you have.
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteI had to cut out bread, dairy, pasta, and even sugar because of an allergy that I had several times in my life when the symptoms acted up. When I looked at food labels, I was so surprised to see how much sugar is in everything. Allergies are no fun, but it is a good way for your body telling you to cleanse it a bit. These pink roses are beautiful, and when I look at them, they are peaceful too. I often take naps during the day, and I worry about my daughter who is working overload right now with her job and other responsibilities they have given her, but soon she will go to Paris and rest. Thanks for the info., dear. You always have something special to say.

Hey Leslie! I always love reading your posts on health, skin, etc…so very informative! I will say I just did Botox again after many years and I've loved the results…however, I'm also about to have the Fraxel procedure done mainly because of pre cancerous places that I've had over the years and also just wanting to look better! My issue right now is that I am totally lacking energy even after much excercise! I've just started Pure Barre which is high intensity muscle work and I'm hoping it's just from that! I feel like you are Dear Abbey right now! No matter…just glad I can voice my concerns! You are so right about lack of sleep being a huge detriment to your puffiness as well as your energy level! I'm really working on that and it's definitely take a huge turn for the better! Thanks for doing this series…would love to know your thoughts on Fraxel if you are familiar with it! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeletePRECIOUS LESLIE!
ReplyDeleteDear heart, thank you so much for visiting my new post. I have been working a lot of substitute jobs and I find that it is even harder for me know to visit blogs in the mornings as I used to. Working full time, I would get up at 3:30am so I could visit everyone who leaves a comment THEN visit my blog roll. But now as a substitute, I am trying to sleep in at least by 4:30 or 5:00 and I am unable to visit. THANK YOU for your kind words and my photo....YIKES! TIME GOES BY! I was 20 years old in that photo..
PEACE AND BEAUTY TO YOU TODAY! Anita
Hi Leslie,
