Summer Skin and Hair

Even though my kids are grown, I still find myself taking inventory and making a to-do list for  fall.  Can we squeeze a quick getaway in before the start of September? I need to schedule my Doctor's appointments.. my house is dusty from having the windows open (I like the fresh air.. but those darn bugs!) and things are a bit scattered.  I remember when the kids were small..  I enjoyed having them home, but also looked forward to resuming the school schedule.

All the goodies we've had.. I'm looking forward to a bowl of berries!

My morning berries in Astier de Villatte, Paris

I wanted to share a new product I tried that has really helped my dry, chapped lips.  The pink grapefruit is my favorite.  Used a couple of times a week, it's helped to keep my lips exfoliated and hydrated.  You could probably make your own with a little sugar mixed with your favorite oil.. but I like the way this product smells and the container is darling.

Most of us have a little summer glow.. requiring just a touch, if any, make up. I'm loving the light lips.. maybe a nude or just the right shade of pink.

Well, you all know about my hair woes.. Add this to something else that changes as you get older! Hair usually gets more course.. and sometimes a few grays pop up.  Finding the right shampoo, conditioner, and leave on products is essential.  Good hair, skin and teeth.. a must in my book!

I've been using the Kerastase products.. a little goes a long way.

Moroccan Oil has a cult following, however I find it a little heavy.
Pequi and Argan oil are a bit lighter and work well to protect and moisturize my hair.  It's worth a try if you are on the look out for a new product.

Even if you can't get to a spa... carve out some quiet time at home.

What's your favorite nail color? Do you go for clear, neutrals or bright colors?

I'm heading out for a much needed girls lunch and then maybe a little shopping with my daughter!  Take time to savor the last days of summer..

Happy Friday!

Waffles and having a little fun in Ghent, Belgium

Let's start our day with a little espresso!  Sugar?

.. ready for a waffle?

My favorite waffle spot in Belgium.  The sugar caramelizes on top during the cooking process.. so good, no need for butter and syrup!

I few pictures of Ghent .. a BEAUTIFUL mid-evil town.  This was our view as we stepped outside and looked to the right.. and if you go, don't miss the boat ride through the canal.

It's a wonder as to how these buildings came to be SO many years ago.  If the walls could speak?!

This was one of my favorite linen boutiques.  The owner carried lots of small silver pieces along with table runners and towels for kitchen and bath.

The boutique was small and I felt uncomfortable taking too many photos in front of the owner, however I did manage to take just a couple..

The night gowns were so pretty and feminine.

Meanwhile, back outside...

"oh dear.. there's that crazy American woman again with her camera"

"Ah.. that's more like it.. she's finally buying some of my candies"

Speaking of candies.. nougat is one of my favorite treats in Europe.  I've learned that if it's too chewy, it's "no good" .. and the best .. just melts in your mouth.. exploding with vanilla and sweet honey!

Eating nougat...

{me} "Why are you taking a picture of me eating?"

{D.}... "because you always are, and I want to capture these special moments"

{me} "well.. make sure it's on soft focus"

Had to throw this picture in.  Does anyone else but me think cheese stores are beautiful?

..and later that day..

"Um.. pardon monsieur...I'd like some of these please?"

"...oh, I heard about this American lady.. does she realize I speak English.. I'll just let her keep going"

Catching a train to Paris..

{D.} "..not sure if this is right"

{D.}"...well, I think this is it"

{me} "I hope I can open my window, otherwise I will have an anxiety attack (claustrophobic you know)

{D.} "..not a chance.. get your bags.."

{me} "..great.. just great..}

We had a 30 minute delay.. of course! Why does this always happen to me.

...and straight to the Metro

"wait.. is this the right line? and that looks like a dark tunnel.. "

Yep!  That's me.. totally exhausted and  wondering why standing in a metro station had to be part of my vacation.

{me} "...I need air"

Sometimes the best pictures aren't the most flattering.. but they are VERY funny aren't they!  You can tell I'm not very relaxed.. I am one of those type A's and I'm very cautious and a bit of a worrier.  At some point, you just need to step out of your comfort zone and do something .. even if it makes you a little uncomfortable.  In this case.. It was SO worth it!

I'll be needing a glass of wine soon.

Have a terrific week ahead!
