Spring Tulips

I bought my first Tulips of the season yesterday.  Typically I follow the rules and go with one color -  I thought about  white tulips with white roses or dahlias. Instead I went with purple, yellow, and orange.

Tulips are such a happy flower. They make me want to smile as I watch them stretch and bend - dancing with the sunlight. Here they are, placed in the brightest spot I could find.

If you are ever visiting the Pacific Northwest in the spring, check out the Tulip Festival  held each year from April 1 -30.  Hundreds of thousands of people come to enjoy the celebration of spring as millions of tulips bloom.  Keep in mind that Mother Nature has her schedule set and sometimes the Tulips are late blooming.  One year we went a little too early.. so check the blooming status.

I also bought these..

.. and planted them in my antique iron Urn along with my Ivy Topiary.  Planting this Cyclamen is almost a guarantee that we will have more snow and temps below freezing. The Urn weighs a ton and isn't easy to move, so when it gets cold I will need to cover the flowers or else!  Seattle has had some spring weather recently giving us a false sense of hope that spring is almost here.

After I walk the girls, go to the gym, shop for groceries, and throw some laundry in (not going into the office today!)  I will be painting my kitchen ceiling  a real pain in the neck but worth it when it's done.  We are working on home upgrades and I'm trying to do whatever I can to help keep costs down as the to-do list is as long as my grocery receipt. Next up will be the kitchen cabinets. My kitchen has white marble with some black granite around the sink. The cabinets will be painted white.

Regardless of my to-do list I always try to squeeze in a little fun - maybe a quick cup of tea or latte with a friend or trip to the gym. What are you doing today?
