More on mason jars!
I like having them near the beverage/bar area. Here they are filled with mini oil lanterns.
Speaking of light..
Although I'm not super religious, I do enjoy the spiritual experience of attending a Christmas Eve service.
My favorite moment is when we stand in total darkness, each of us holding a special candle, and sing Silent Night. No music, just candles and beautiful voices.
I cry every time.
This is a time for me to reflect on my life, give thanks for all that I have .. and say a prayer for those that need it most.
ON TO COMFORT FOOD!!
Crescent Rolls and Brie
This is one of those foods that you can't stop eating ... it's that good! I buy refrigerator crescent rolls and place them around a piece of brie. Bake according to the directions on the back of the crescent roll container.. (usually 15 -20 minutes at 350 degrees).
Serve right out of the oven while the brie is running all over the place :) and add a little fig jam. YUM!
Readers have asked me to show more house pictures so I added a couple photos. Due to time constraints and house guests, I only have a few.
My mantels are really simple.
Living room.. Blue and white porcelain, greens with pinecones, and a small string of fairy lights.
Fresh greens is ALWAYS my preference but it's just not practical if you want to enjoy your decor for more than a week or so. As the pine needles fall you find yourself vacuuming daily. So.. I've compromised and do a little of both.. faux and fresh. It's smart to wait until right before or after the holiday to take advantage of markdowns as the good ones are pricey.
This mantle is in the kitchen area. It's a very small, narrow space. Fortunately my nut crackers fit perfectly there.
I try to keep my blue and white vases filled with flowers, especially during the dark winter months. It really helps keep me from getting those seasonal blues.
For the holidays I put white poinsettias and a candle on the island, trying to leave extra space for all those holiday goodies coming;)
I have black granite and white marble counters. The cabinets are painted white and a black bean color for a two toned look. Honed marble is the back splash.
Clam pulls and knobs.. very simple.
Up high in the kitchen.. things in unexpected places. I light the lanterns year round.
evening
Chocolate cake in the background .. ready for my son's birthday;) Homemade and chocolate of course!
Holiday baking with my daughter! ..get the butter out ;)
Let it snow!
This morning I woke up to this lovely sight! Our first snowfall of the season.
Looking out of my kitchen..
Driving in the snow here in the pacific northwest is different than back east. It's hilly, we have lots of ice, and are not equipped with regards to road clearing. A little snow can create a bit of chaos. Those of us living at higher elevations get treated to this scene frequently over the winter months.
view from the front
My girls headed out for our daily walk.
ginger and layla
This will be my last post until after the New Year.
I've got to finish out this work week and then I'll be busy planning meals, wrapping gifts, and spending time with my family. Both kids will be here, plus my two dogs, and my mom and her dog will arrive soon. Yipee! (btw, dogs are confined to the main living area.. the dog hair gets everywhere if they start to roam around)
There will be plenty of chaos.. and lots of family time, classic movies (thanks for all the suggestions!), eating, and some R & R.
Next year I look forward to starting my second year of blogging. The experience has been a good one so far and I'm thankful for your friendship and kind comments.
Enjoy the spirit of the season and I wish you and your family a healthy and happy NEW YEAR!
In the meantime, I'll be stopping by your blogs and would enjoy hearing what your holiday plans are .. so leave a comment!

Pretty images! Love your Christmas touches around the house!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! Love your decorations! That appetizer is one we do quite often…I'm glad to know someone else likes it as much as we do! We do it the same way except we put pear preserves on it and serve it with Anna's Gingersnaps…yummy!!! It's truly good with whatever you serve it with! Our Christmas Eve candlelight service is one of my most treasured times and memories of Christmas…all of our family is there and yes, it does bring tears to your eyes…it's the one time we can all reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and be together as a family without all of the chaos! Christmas blessings to you and and I hope you enjoy your time with your kids and your mom!! Can't wait to hear from you after the New Year and see how it all went! much love, carolyn
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see a bit more of your home - it looks beautiful and relaxing. That brie looks goooooood, especially with some fig jam.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends. "See you" in the new year. xo
What a beautiful and inspiring Christmas post and that Brie roll looks so incredibly delicious! :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning dear and lovely Leslie!
ReplyDeleteOh you and me both...when it comes to Christmas songs, I actually prefer the accapella variety, so that all I can hear is the voices. I TOO CRY! I have been working furiously in my basement studio with my computer close at hand to have YOUTUBE playlists running and I have been crying in between HOT GLUING! Thinking about our nation's recent tragedy, feeling sentimental over the holidays. But LIGHT is the reason, I think, for this season. And nothing gives us so much as light:
vision
hope
warmth
guidance
power.
May all of the above be yours my dear. Anita
Hi Anita, beautiful pictures of your home! I hope you and your family have a wonderul holiday, Jen
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful all that snow is, I don't we're getting any.

So glad you gave faux flowers and greens a thumbs up - they are definitely easier to clean up after in the holidays! That baked brie recipe looks amazing and will have to try it this weekend with a good bottle of wine. And we're so jealous you have snow!!! Our fingers are crossed for a white Christmas but given the current weather, we may be in for a wet one. Wishing you a very Merry and many blessings in 2013. So glad we "met" you blogging.

ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful holiday and wishing you nothing but the best for 2013 xx
Leslie-What a beautiful kitchen. I love the choices you have made there. Your daughter is gorgeous! Really a beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that although you have said you are not a "religious" person you ARE a spiritual person- I can sense that just by the way you write and interact here in blog world. I don't think God calls us to any particular religion, I think He calls us to find him everywhere-in our homes and families and even in carols on Christmas Eve. Blessings to you and your family----and save me a piece of chocolate cake, will ya? xo Diana
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteIt was fun getting to see some of your decorations. I mix faux and live greens as well, pretty much for the same reason. I use white poinsettias and have also used white roses and casa blanca lilies for glass vases with fresh cranberries in the bottom. Love your 2 little blue and white nutcrackers.
Thanks for the appetizer, it looks decadent and divine! I'll be trying it over the holiday break.
Enjoy your holiday and I'll look forward to reading your blog upon your return in 2013. (Wow! can you believe we're about to start another year?!)

Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog, and wanted to thank you for commenting on mine (the Christmas home tour of my friend's house). Your home is lovely, and your dogs are precious (I'm a dog lover). You are lucky to have gotten some snow. All we've had is rain and I'd be surprised if we get any snow this winter. Two years ago we had a white Christmas and it was wonderful. I hope you and your family have a beautiful Christmas and a happy New Year.
Claudia
P.S. I'm adding your blog to my blog roll.
The atmosphere in Your home is charming... All those natural decorations, with pinecons, candles, smell of goodies and for the first, family and loved animales... I like Your kitchen and wall cabinet, dark blue flowerpot...
ReplyDeleteI wish You wonderful time with Your Family!
I'm glad that new year is coming :)
marta
Hello Leslie!!
ReplyDeleteI love your doughter's apron(: so cute with the frills. Also you decor is just perfect for me, love the elegant and less in the face look, just beautiful. Agreed on the mantle greenery, hard to keep it fresh. I did though decorate my own baskets and vases with either water or the "stuff" that keeps water and it is a foam to make arrangement of twigs and flowers in place(:
That way it stays fresh for longer...
You home looks peaceful and happy and beautiful and so does your daughter!!
Merry holidays! Xo z
Thank you so much for the visit to my blog. I am your newest follower your pictures are so beautiful. I am going to try the brie that way it looks so yummy.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas.
Cathy
Your mantel and tabletops looks so pretty! The brie in the crescent roll recipe is just up my alley. I'll definitely be giving that a try.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Christmas with your family.
