I saw these little satsumas at the store yesterday and thought I'd use them on my Thanksgiving table.
I have a busy work week ahead, so I am doing what I can over the weekend to get organized. Fortunately I will be hosting only immediate family.
I am choosing bronze chargers to place under the Woodland Spode. They were purchased at Pottery Barn years ago.
I have a long farm house table in my main eating/kitchen area that I generally use for entertaining. It's important for me to have the fireplace, the television, and ALL my guests in the family room kitchen area (great room). We spend most of our time there.
Orchids are easy to grow and their flowers last for weeks.
Orchids are easy to grow and their flowers last for weeks.
When I want to get a little more formal or have just a few people to dinner, we sit at a table that comes from the French countryside. I purchased it from Annie Brahler and her team did a nice job of refurbishing the pieces.
I painted the table and chairs a white lacquer and had a center piece custom made for the table so I could seat more people. I've got several pieces from her, and my goal was to create a little French themed area in my home. It's been a work in progress!
The seats were completely re-done. The cover is a beige linen and I had Annie make these little covers so I could "dress" up the chair when I entertained. Otherwise, I like the simplicity of the plain linen.
Reinforced and then painted white.
It's been a rainy day here in Seattle and ~ after all the running around today, I'm looking forward to a quiet dinner and a movie at home.
What? This was not my idea!
By today's standards, it's kinda slow and really not scary .. but I decided to bake cookies in order to miss most of the infamous shower scene {it's really not that bad}
Over the holiday season I always enjoy watching old movies.
What are your favorite movies to watch with your family?
Gone With The Wind? Do you ever watch the James Bond or Twilight Zone series that airs between Christmas and New Years? I always enjoy the old black and white films. They seem so much easier to watch.. not so fast and flashy, and the styles are always fun.
Back to the French theme..
In case you've never seen Annie's work, here is a sampling.
Check out the fireplace ~ those are Delft tiles. Her collection is extensive. Love it!

This sweet little doe was enjoying a quiet moment on the trail this morning. It was a rainy hike and we all came home drenched.
Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Your Thanksgiving table looks like it will be quite festive and pretty. The satsumas add a nice punch of color.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I always enjoy watching Love Actually and Elf (our new holidays classics as we like to call them :) during the holidays.
That little doe is just darling!
Have fun with the rest of your preparations and have a wonderful week and Thanksgiving Leslie!
Rowena @ rolala loves
We own both of those movies Rowena.. good ones for over the holiday season!
DeleteDear Leslie -
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful and warm Thanksgiving with your family!! We'll be watching lots of movies, too. I love the classics.
Very best wishes from DC ~
Loi
PS - Love the peeks of your table setting.
I agree Loi! Those classics are my favorite too :)
DeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'd love to see the whole table in a picture. You have great taste. Your table setting sounds pretty too. I love the down time around the holidays for movies and walks. I love to watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice when I have time!
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
xo
Kim
I like that too and I need to watch Downton Abbey. I've heard it's great!
DeleteHi Leslie...we are going see the new James Bond tonight, heard its really good. Your Thanksgiving table looks like its going to be so beautiful and yet so inviting. I absolutely treasure any downtime I can get and my lazy Sundays have turned into the most anticipated day of my week. Love them! I also have to admit after James Bond I will be wanting to race home to not miss my guilty pleasure "Housewives on bravo"...what can I say, its really entertaining! Enjoy the rest of your day.
ReplyDeleteLol! I've been know to watch that from time to time too ;) My son saw the James Bond movie this weekend and said it was excellent. Have fun tonight!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Leslie...remember our military families in your prayers, please. xx's Marsha
ReplyDeleteWill do Marsha!! xx
DeleteGood afternoon Leslie my dear! OH, how I love this furniture theme you have going in your home! I too have a French farmhouse table in the dining room and I used to treat it so gently. Now, I place things on it to give it a rougher look and I LOOKS EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL! A good wax job (I have to wear a good mask to use Briswax) and it will shine with that glossy vintage look.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Thanksgiving and you have the same idea as we do; movies, loved ones and the TV in the same area! Tonight we are watching FRINGE....we love that show on DVD!
Happy Thanksgiving! Anita

DeleteI agree, the patina really makes things look BETTER! ..even on my white marble :) I used to cringe when I saw the etching from daily use. When someone has an accident, I say .. no worries, that's the look I'm going for! Enjoy FRINGE :)
DeleteSounds like my Sunday night, and rain as well all day. Lovely post as always! Happy thanksgiving! xo Caroline
ReplyDeleteSunday's are perfect for a little rain :)
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie, the little sneak peek at your table looks inviting indeed. I love to have the whole family gathered 'round. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year, because it's so simple and hasn't been kidnapped by marketing campaigns. I, too, have spent my week-end dressing my table in preparation for the big event on Thursday. My work week keeps me pretty well worn out. So I do as much ahead of time as I can . Have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the day with family and friends.
ReplyDeleteTerri
I agree Terri. Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks and NOT gifts under the tree. It does receive much less attention than it deserves as it is sandwiched between the holidays surrounding it.
ReplyDeleteLove this post. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThank you Leigh!
DeleteOmg my eyes stopped at that French kitchen. It's unbelievably gorgeous! I hope you'll have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!

ReplyDeleteyour dining pieces look gorgeous, and your thanksgiving is sure to set the stage for sweet memories.
we have some favorite movies in our family that we never tire of viewing: the sandlot, signs, groundhog day, and home alone.
smiles and happy almost-thanksgiving, lovely blogger.
michele
I know you are Michele! She has a website but not an on line store. Groundhog Day is a favorite of ours .. as is home alone :) I'm not familiar with the other two.. but I'm sure they are good :)
DeleteWow! Stunning set up for Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos!
I love Hitchcock movies! He was a genius.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Leslie!
A little scary is perfect .. and A. Hitchcock has it down!
DeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteYour table looks wonderful. LOL, yes, we all need some access to TV at Thanksgiving...football is a must for our family. :-) We aren't hosting Thanksgiving this year, a first in a very long time. But I know how important it is to organize and prepare in advance when you are hosting. Love the doe, cue the doe, almost like Diseyland, how wonderful.
Have a lovely Thanksgiving.
Karen
Yes.. it's a football thing!! My daughter has been cheering for the Seattle Seahawks for several years and so..many family members are obsessed. I like the "away" games so I don't have to stand out in the rain/snow. That little doe was so peaceful. They do have a .."I work for Disney" kinda look! Lol!
DeleteYour table looks so pretty. The orange of the satsumas is a lovely injection of colour. x Sharon
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteYour Thanksgiving table is beautiful! I love the Woodland Spode. It's perfect for Thanksgiving! I know what you mean about having everything in one room (table, fireplace, TV). I have an open layout too and I love it. You don't feel like you are missing anything being in the kitchen : )
Yes, classic movies are a must - especially during the holidays. I love Meet Me in St Louis with Judy Garland and It's a Wonderful Life! My son loves Home Alone and Charlie Brown Christmas too! (With hot chocolate of course!)
Happy Thanksgiving, friend!
Danielle xo
the chairs seem so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour table looks amazing, love that! Simple elegance, so pretty!! The chairs are magical :)) I love movie time and baking cookies :))) Yum!! I remember Psycho, it's great, the re-make wasn't as good, the original is fabulous!! I hope you have a marvellous week & Thanksgiving!! It's not a holiday here, but it's never needed to be thankful for something :) xx
ReplyDeleteLeslie your table is going to be wonderful! I love how your candlesticks look and ordered a pair for myself. It's wonderful how things can be re-purposed with paint and updated fabric. Funny but we love catching the Twilight series shows that used to scare me when I was young but only make me laugh now.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and you're family have a wonderful and Happy Thanksgving!

I just discovered your blog today via Loi. I see i'm a little late to the party with Kim, Anita and lovely Marsha already here. Your table looks divine, the satsuma are a great touch. Paul
ReplyDeleteBlack and white movies are definitely my favorites! I could watch them all day! Loved your satsumas! I had never heard of them until last week in New Orleans and so many of the restaurants used them in so many different menu items! I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy all of your company! I love the pieces you got from Annie! I definitely want to investigate her some more! Looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour table looks so inviting. And I love Annie's work. My house is quite French and a little shabby. Feels like home.
ReplyDeleteYour table setting is gorgeous, love your flatware and candlesticks in the pretty mix. Wishing you a wonderful day with your family, Leslie!
ReplyDeleteAs always I am incredibly impressed...you are inspiring!
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie, I wanted to make sure to pop by to say thanks for your very kind comment this weekend. So nice to hear from you. I had so much fun working with Tina on her project. Your Thanksgiving table sounds absolutely beautiful, love the clementines. My mother has asked me to do her table this year, and I'm thinking that a little pop of orange is definitely in order. I hope you enjoy all the prep and especially the big day. Wishing you and your family the happiest of Thanksgivings! XO
ReplyDeleteYour table is going to look gorgeous and I love the idea of a French themed area - you have some really lovely pieces and the neutral colours are so pretty. I'm just going to click on that recipe for those very professional looking cookies! Wishing you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving.

ReplyDeleteI love to watch you've got mail and somethings gotta give......they have nice interiors too ;O)

Hello Leslie,
ReplyDeleteAs always, such a lovely post. Your table setting is absolutely gorgeous. Knowing the history of your table and the intricate detailing of the chairs makes it all extra special. The satsuma looks delicious--but then so does the cookie. Hard to choose....okay-the cookies win this time.
Have a lovely Thanksgiving Leslie. I know you make it special for everyone around you.
Cheers, Heather xx
Leslie, I love love love this table! My kind of spread! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Mon
I love Seattle. I can just smell the coffee. Your table is really lovely. The white lacquer is a nice touch. I also love bronze plates, although I don't have any. Today, I am making spicy cornbread for a stuffing recipe. We are just having immediate family, too. It will be a change, but good. I love your blog. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteYour home is stunning. I have seen many of the photos by Annie and have used them on Inspired but never knew the original source - thanks for letting me know! I LOVE to watch any holiday movie I can get my hands on as soon as Thanksgiving rolls around. What a great shot of the deer. I always think it's good luck when I see a deer. The other day I got a text from my girlfriend that said: "You always say it's good luck when you see a deer. Is it bad luck when you hit one?" It ran out in front of her car, she was devastated. xo
ReplyDeleteYour home is stunning. I love love this table!!! I love your blog
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful home Leslie! I hope the kids will be back to spend thanksgiving and the orchids are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteEverything at your house sounds so charming. The linen on the chairs is a wonderful color, especially with the white lacquer paint. I love old black and white movies too, they are so much softer and more romantic... i don't know what it is about them that is so good, but i find lots of black and white movies enchanting, and some are amazingly good!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Looks like you will have a gorgeous holiday table. Enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie - Thanks for stopping by my blog!!
ReplyDeleteYour Thanksgiving table looks lovely - I just love Woodland Spode! And, I love the idea of the little satsumas (I think we call them Clementines here on the east coast - is there a difference?) as table decorations.
How was Psycho? I love watching and going to movies with my family. We will be seeing "Life of Pi" together over the weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Your Thanksgiving table looks so pretty with those satsumas. We hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteJayme & Mendi @ Her Late Night Cravings
Many beautiful things as always :) Your white table and chairs are gorgeous! I like this style. Lately we have our polish Independence Day and was also very festively and familiar. I love "Love actually" This is my best film for Christmas holiday :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for You and Your family Leslie!

Leslie, Your Thanksgiving table looks so inviting. I do hope you enjoyed "Psycho". Those movies still scare the daylights out of me. I love old movies. "Gone With the Wind and Miracle on 34th Street" or two after Thanksgiving Dinner favorites.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and joining me over at Living Life. I look forward to becoming better acquainted. You have a lovely blog. Bonnie
So many pretty details in your dining room! When it comes to movies, my favorites seem to be ones about the south. Gone with the Wind, Steel Magnolias, The Firm, Big Chill, Fried Green Tomatoes. I don't know why I'm drawn to the south so much. I've never lived there but it has a certain aura that captivates me. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteLeslie....your table is going to look beautiful. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm adding you to my blogroll.
ReplyDeleteDear Leslie, looks like a beautiful Thanksgiving over at your house....enjoy this very special day with your loved ones! N.xo

ReplyDeleteOk, Ms. Leslie, we need to see A LOT more of your beautiful home!!! (I always add a satsuma in each of my kids´ stockings!).

ReplyDeleteson2 just watched psycho in his film class at school

Good morning lovely Leslie! Oh how I enjoyed hearing about your brother! What a fabulous craft of making wine. YEP, artists don't make much unless they have been marketed and made into stars...but the stardust is made each day that we attempt to create a new piece even if it doesn't sell. I agree that we must CREATE BECAUSE it is a calling. Are you familiar with the movie, BABETTE'S FEAST? If not, see it. It is in Danish and French, but the message is quite clear: An artist MUST CREATE no matter if they are poor. Fascinating movie and idea.
ReplyDeleteOh now we begin our Christmas celebrations!! I cannot wait to beautify my home with all the above ....the white, the gray and the natural elements! Have a great day sweet friend! Anita
Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteYour colours and textures in your dining room are truly French in all its simple but savvy glory! Clean lines and rich textures, like your dining room chairs, make a statement in themselves.
I love your choice of photos illustrating Annie Brahler's style. Looking forward to exploring her work.
Hope your Thanksgiving was just what you had planned. Sounds warm and cozy. I think many of us look forward to similar things: family, friends, good food, and some light entertainment. Personally, I have no problem watching my favourite romantic comedies over and over again - You've Got Mail, French Kiss, Something's Gotta Give...and many more!
Have a great week!
xx
Poppy
Hi Leslie, you have such a wonderful blog! What a beautiful thanksgiving table, and the little satsuma looks so pretty. Thank you for also visiting my blog :) Have a fantastic new week!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post Leslie! Your Thanksgiving table looked absolutely stunning. I saw Pscyho fairly recently and what surprised me was how FUNNY it is - apparently Hitchcock meant it as a comedy! xo
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing hostess dear Leslie! I'm turning my whole house in a French zone, therefore I adore Annie Brahler's job. I also adore orchids, though I don't think they're easy to grow :-( If you have the chance please stop by and read this: http://pinktopping.blogspot.it/2012/11/passing-on-sisterhood-of-world-bloggers.html
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Kisses Coco
Hello Leslie! You reflect calm and pleasure to the world!(: love euro trash and thanks for pointing them out, great stuff. Your dinner must have been lovely and quite romantic with that nice table setting and chair covers.

Beautiful table, lovely details. I love that last picture of the kitchen so much, all that whiteness and space, fireplace and island, so yummi. And the doe is so adorable : )
