It's about 40 degrees and clear here in the pacific northwest. With the weather being nice and not working today, I decided (like everyone else!) to begin a holiday shopping.
Above.. I picked up three wreaths that I attached atop the windows in my dinning room and added a linen linen stocking..super simple.
I like to keep my holiday decor simple and natural looking.. paying tribute the forested area and animals that roam the area in which we are so fortunate to live.
I picked up pine cones and enjoyed a stroll through the poinsettia farm near my home.
Back home, I'm spritzing my orchid and pouring water on my paper whites that are snuggled up in various bowls around my home. If you missed my post on forcing bulbs, click here
I'm liking the way these blue ice skates are resting against a few baskets.
My husband and daughter put up our LGB Christmas Train. It travels around the tree and around the living room. When we entertain, it's constantly being de-railed as little ones attempt to operate it.
Over the years we've added cars.. some that transport, others blow bubbles and make a loud CHOO CHOO sound. It's great to wake college kids or house guests up when we need to get going.
A few pictures of the cabinets. SO relieved the worst part is over. My desk is a bit disorderly .. I do know where to find things though :)
I went for a two toned look. Still missing hardware!
With the long holiday weekend, I'm behind on visiting my favorite blogs. I'll stop by asap!
Enjoy the start to the holiday season!
xx

hi Leslie - thanks for stopping by our blog. i just love your bulbs. I want to put poinsettias up so bad, but since they are poisonous to dogs (and mine happen to be quite curious) i keep having to pass on them.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a wonderful start to your nature inspired decorations. I decorate a lot with vegetables entwined with greenery. Forcing bulbs in pretty bowls is a great idea on your part.

Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteYour cabinets turned out fab!!! We have a LGB train, too....and we love it when the smoke comes out. Though my boys tend to like to make it go too fast...resulting in derailment! :)
xoxo Elizabeth
Leslie,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty. I'm with you, I love natures holiday decorations best. We have an LGB train and we haven't set it up in ages...not sure Olivia (at 2 years) is ready for it but maybe I'll get it down.
Your kitchen is lovely. I believe I have the same stove...Viking? I really like the way it cooks.
By the way, is that the new Charles Faudree book that your blue and white bowl with paper whites is sitting on?
Karen

You are definitely getting organised with the Christmas decorations and the wreaths with the stockings are so cute. The train is amazing - no wonder it's a hit with adults and children - this brought back happy memories playing with my brothers train set! I love pine cones at Christmas time - I picked up some huge ones in a forest in France a couple of years ago - so they will be making an appearance soon.

ReplyDeleteYour home is gorgeous!! Any tips on how to care for Orchids? I have one that might be suffering a bit at home and one that is at work and the green leaves are so healthy but it hasn't bloomed in three years. :-)

ReplyDeleteThose skates! So adorable!!!! Can you decorate my house?!
ReplyDeleteYou and I share the same decor philosophy for Christmas. I favor fresh greenery and flowers mixed with candles. I order some of my greenery from our local flower market, and it should be in at the end of next week. My paperwhites are growing V E R Y *slowly* :/ I hope they'll be in blom by Christmas!!!
ReplyDeletexo,

Like you and many of your
ReplyDeletereaders, I also go for the simple,
natural Christmas decor. Love
what you've done! We won't be
home for Christmas this year,
so it's going to be even more
pared back than normal. Next
year, when my daughter is home
from college {!} for her first X-mas
back, I'll make a bigger splash : )
Hope you are feeling merry and
jolly and having a great weekend,
Leslie!
Hugs,
xo Suzanne
