Bovine art fits perfectly in this farmhouse setting.

The family table .. on the other side of the fireplace.
Dressed up (and functional) storage containers.
Susan said the flattened spoons are from Sarah who owns "Roost Reimagined" in oregon.

Mom's little helper in the kitchen ;) So animated! .. and look at the style she has!
A bright, sunny craft room set up for the girls.
Susan adds a locker for storage..
... for pens, scissors, and the like..
Photography gallery.. Beautiful black and whites taken by Susan.
Girl's rooms ..
Wall decor for her daughter's bedroom.. part of a Merry-Go-Round !
Heading in to the guest bedroom..
A second gallery wall.. this one shows family history.
Additional rooms..
The master bedroom.. I love the softness here.
The tub is copper exterior, nickel interior. Susan jokes that she can count the number of times she's "soaked in it" .. but her girls like it! So funny... all moms can relate to this!!
Isn't it fun to get inspiration from designers that post the perfect room.. in a perfect color, with perfect symmetry and incredible art on the walls? Then there are the "design rules" .. to get it right, it's best to follow specific guidelines.
Some of my favorite bloggers are designers and artists. It is impressive to watch professionals put together a "space" with all the correct elements.
Remember the chicken last week that was going to lay an egg? Well she's been busy!! Aren't they pretty?!
When it comes to interior design my knowledge is limited.. in fact I work in the medical field, so I consider myself completely outside the loop! If you don't mind me saying though, here's how I see it.
Decor aesthetics is very personal and it's kinda like wine tasting.
My brother (a wine maker) was once asked what constitutes a fine wine. His reply was perfect.. "if it tastes good to YOU, then it's a fine wine." Well, there you have it.
Susan says her favorite part of living where she does are the deer. She feeds them apples.
We were lucky enough to see these babies last week!
We were lucky enough to see these babies last week!
When you bring your personal self into the design of your home.. it changes the feel and becomes a place where everyone wants to be. Some homes (beautiful as they are) may feel somewhat predictable and unapproachable.
wet lands on the property
Those drop dead gorgeous, pricey pieces are lots of fun to have in the home but (in my opinion) won't complete a home.
Warm and welcoming.. that's how I want my home to feel. Nothing is off limits and everything may be touched. Guests should feel relaxed and comfortable enough to kick off their boots and plop down on the couch with a warm blanket and beverage of their choice.
I enjoy visiting a home with a relaxed vibe. Watching the hostess running around {frazzled} makes me feel bad and is no fun. Do you know what I'm saying here?! When I entertain I try to have things under control so I can spend time with my guests. If I have last minute things to do ... I ask for help. Everyone likes to contribute! A relaxed environment is a welcoming environment.
.... decorating from the HEART...
This farmhouse is an example of all of these wonderful things...
Dogs and kids running about, the farm animals outside, details are perfectly placed, and Susan has thoughtfully purchased her decor ...with intention. There are no rules, if she likes it she buys it and makes it work. A home that feels welcoming, warm, and like ya just want to live there. There's something so real about that.. I just love it.
I had to add this for all of you that have marble in your home (I was told I would regret putting it in.. so glad I followed my heart and went with it anyway!)
Something spills on the marble counter...
{susan} .. oh well, happens all the time.. do you worry about spillage on your marble?
If you missed the exterior of this home, you can see it HERE
Have a wonderful week ahead and thanks so much for stopping by!
xx

ReplyDeleteHer home is gorgeous, Leslie. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS LESLIE,
ReplyDeleteI truly, TRULY enjoyed my tour of this home with you. I love bovine art, and living here in Minnesota, I have learned to LOVE the Scandinavian feel for architecture, interior design and sensibilities towards simplicity. I enjoy bringing nature into the scene and every turn and corner in this house is only elevated by the warmth of its inhabitants! THAT TUTU in the room, the SOFTNESS as you mention, my goodness, this is a treat.
Thank you for your visit and kind comments. I am learning that as a writer, I can take the disappointments as an artist and record them. I can also take the disappointments and joys as a writer and use them in my art. I am learning, and I only hope that as I discover these things, the economy will allow me to continue...for selling art is not what it is all about, but at the same time necessary....
THANK YOU! I look forward to your next post! Anita
GORGEOUS home...you can see its filled with love laughter and warmth. It beckons you right in......bovine art is so cozy and warm. I love it. Thanks for sharing!

The best homes reflect the personalities of the people who live there and Susan's home has a great sense of warmth and comfort that must be really lovely for those who live there as well as lucky visitors like you. That tub is so cool.

Can I PLEASE be a houseguest?! Everything here is perfection!
ReplyDeleteThis house is spectacular!I see what you mean: the decor doesn't stick to the rules of a specific style, though its every detail is part of a perfect ensemble. I share your same idea of how a hostess should behave: relax and make the guests feel relaxed. I make a huge effort to do that because I tend to freak out before hosting a dinner , but after half a glass of Brunello I am the most easygoing hostess. I am proud of my home, because in spite of its many flaws and untidy spots, it is decorated with heart and filled with love. Nighty night dear :xxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteWow! Loving the decor! The girl's rooms and the old lockers for storage are my fave!

home. Thank Susan
for letting you share
it with your readers!
Happy Friday,

An absolutely stunning home and I can feel the warmth oozing from its walls.
ReplyDeleteI might add I totally agree with your brother!

Leslie, this was perfect! And I couldn't have said it better myself! The homes that I gravitate to are the ones that are "real" and lived in and we can be laid back in and not worry about harming anything! That's how my house has always been! We just were photographed for a magazine and at first I was horrified because I was told they were just using the kitchen and the kitchen fireplace…next thing I knew, they were shooting the entire house but I hadn't prepared for it! It was messy, very dated….etc…and my daughter and her husband had been living with us for 6 weeks so things were not normal! They were actually very abnormal but because I didn't know they were going to shoot the whole house I didn't fret! Because I didn't know I should've been fretting! LOL! I just saw the proofs the other day and I was blown away! I guess I'm the only one that sees the worst…I was more than pleased and a bit humbled that I would be so concerned about the way things look! I always want people to "feel" at home…just like I do! Thanks for all of your fabulous blog posts and extremely kind comments on my blog! I truly appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteJust adore her home. She has great taste, but it's warm and cozy and feels very personal. Very inspiring!
I also had marble in my kitchen of my last home and I absolutely loved it! I miss it a ton and people also gave me a bad time for getting it. This home came with granite. It's fine, but it's not the same!
Have a good weekend!
xo
Kim
What a fabulous home! Hope you are having a good weekend!
