Every month I do a #girlfriendseries post to remind us of the importance of friendship. My friend Susan is my partner in this fun series, and is always up and ready to go on a new adventure. You can follow us around Seattle eating, shopping, and seeing the sites.
This month's post features Susan herself! ... artist, designer, photographer, AND her gorgeous farm house. The original owner is from Sweden and built the home in 1972. The silo was added twenty years later.
Today we will tour around the outside, focusing on all of the animals. I love the simplicity of nature! The smell of hay, horses, fresh farm eggs, goats running about... it just doesn't get any better than that! So let's get our cowboy boots on and take a tour...
Here you see a view of her beautiful Pacific Northwest garden. We do get a lot of rain, however the pay off is lots of lush green everywhere! Nature does most of the watering for us so a sprinkler system is not necessary. Gardens and lawns are often allowed to dry and re-seed for the following year.
A quick glimpse into her home. Yum!
That's "Big" above :) and my puppy "Layla" below. Getting a picture of her holding still was difficult and we had to make sure all the gates were shut so she didn't go after the chickens.
As soon as I arrived Susan opened up a chilled bottle of Prosecco and added some berry puree (one of my favorite drinks!)
Urns, lanterns .. all create beautiful ambiance.
Have you ever touched a goose? Meet Lucy.. her feathers are so soft!
Our girls and Thunder the pony ..
Meet Rikki ..this little guy reminds me of an adolescent teenage boy. What an attitude he had! If you approached him he'd turn and walk away and if you ignored him he'd come up behind you and ask for attention.
Here we are.. trying to pose for a quick picture (not easy when the animals will not stand still) ..Ahhh.. come on Thunder!!
Always "cracking" each other up :) Laughter is a wonderful thing isn't it?! ..hurry!! take the picture quickly!!
Susan has a about a half dozen chickens... some are roosters living in a different chicken coop. They get about one fresh egg a day from their hens.
Guess what they call this little guy??
Supermodel "AFro" (Polish Bantam Hen)
..and here we have a little problem.. the goat ran in and is trying to eat the chicken food.. oh no!!
.. that-a girl Susan!! .. way to take control of the Twinkle .. the goat!! Out she goes!
This little one is getting ready to lay an egg.. Susan can tell these kinds of things..
A secondary barn for more chickens...
Here is Fuzzy.. he is so cute but a little wiggly. Susan told me to hold down his wings.. and he calmed right down :)
The sun is setting and it is almost time for the salmon to go on the grill..and maybe a little more Prosecco..
Hope you enjoyed our girls day today!
Next week.. a tour of the inside!
Have a wonderful week ahead!
xx
leslie

What a stunning home, our farmhouses look very different! And that chicken coop is the height of luxury.
ReplyDeleteYes:) Chicken coops come in all different shapes and sizes these days!
DeleteGorgeous home, Tabitha is right, our farmhouses here do look different. Love the space of lands there and the animals are precious :) Happy Monday xx
ReplyDeleteThere are wet lands near her home (preserved by the state).. These areas are safe from builders.
DeleteWhat a completely charming & lovely home. Love it!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you like it Marsha :)
DeleteWonderful home and the area! You showed us so many interesting things, that I don't know how to begin ;) But the most surprising for me are the hens! I' ve never seen these species! Especially Polish Bantam Hen. But I checked that these hens don't come from Poland ;) Lucy is so cute! This is seen... The farm of Your friend is impressive! It's nice that You always care about relationships with women, I like it! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish You good week!
marta
So funny that the Polish hen does not exist in Poland! Yes! Lucy is very cute :) Susan almost lost her.. she is a survivor and has been through a lot.

DeleteWhat an amazing place! Would love to have the space for all of these cute animals. My husband has been pushing for chickens but we need to get the property next door purchased first.
ReplyDeleteSusan spends a lot of time working on the property and taking care of the animals. I too would enjoy chickens. They are lots of work apparently :) but what animal isn't?

DeleteWhat a lovely day you had and what a gorgeous house and garden. Prosecco is one of my favourite drinks too and I like to experiment by adding to it. Great photos and pretty lavender in the stylish pots. Always good to have a catch-up with girlfriends.

ENJOY A GREAT DAY filled with inspiration! BISOUS! Anita
Leslie, great post. Girlfriends are SO important in our lives. Nothing can compare to knowing you can sit down with your BFF and talk about anything....or even NOT talk and still be comfortable. I don't know where I would be without my girlfriends. What a lovely day in such a lovely setting. That house is gorgeous and I hope we get to see more of it. I'm dying for chickens of my own.
ReplyDeleteI agree Terri!! I would surely burst with my girlfriends :) You will see the inside next week :) I too would love chickens!
Delete... without! .. my girlfriends!!!!
DeleteOh Leslie what a great day! I love seeing my house through your eyes. Had I known you would have found the rotting carrots so attractive I would have put them in something more photogenic like a galvanized bucket - lol! You are such a talent with a great eye and wonderful friend. Thank-you for thinking I'm worthy of your fabulous blog :))
ReplyDeletexxSusan
Hello my friend .. finally I made it over and catching up on reading your lovely posts!! The grilled pear .. need I say more ? :) the photos of your trip , have me wanting to go back to Paris, She (Paris) has a way of capturing and taking our hearts. Go for the handbag... love the shade of brown and the shape.
ReplyDeleteLove love your transition into autumn... the hydrangeas are gorgeous. Ours did not bloom this year ... we have relied on a local market in town for ours this year.
Your post on One Up! is unfortunately so true, people some how have moved away from actually being happy for others. They seem to forget there are sacrifices and hard work that go into having a "good life" ... If we have good health, a roof over our head, food in our tummy, clothes on our backs and wonderful friends and family around us their really is nothing more we really need. I know we all (me too) feel we need more - advertising, media, and peer pressure really drill that into us. We continue to try and simplify our way of living at our home.
Your friend's country property is wonderful!! We hope to one day have our property organized so that we can have a few little animals about. Looks like a fabulous time was had by all human, furry, and feathered a like!! xo C. (HHL)
P.S. Thank you for your visits and encouraging words. xo
Yes Cilia! I love the seasonal changes.. it represents the cycle of life, does it not? :) Thank you for your wonderful comment on One Up.. you are right.. it's all about priorities and simplicity in life.

ReplyDeleteIsn’t That Charming.
Love how you're featuring your friend Susan in this post and I think this looks like a place out of the movie. It's cool they added the silo and are doing a little 'facelift' on it, because I feel like it must be fun to own a home and be able to make whatever changes and upgrades you want. The pics are all adorable too! That preseco with berry puree has me craving happy hour hehe

ReplyDeleteHi Leslie ~~ Just wanted to tell you how much I appreicate your sweet words on my blog the other day about Austin. You are a dear friend as you have lifted my spirits about Austin and his healing. The good news is today we took him to Children's Hospital in Seattle and they said he does not need surgery. So, in the mean time he has a special cast to act as gravity to pull the humerus down back into place. I appreciate your prayers too and God Bless You Leslie

Hello Leslie!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so beautifully written and your photos are lovely. We both have an affinity for France and your posts on Paris took me back to some sweet memories of summer 2011. It was such fun to see that you had stopped by my blog Stylemindchic. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteI've been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.
