Les Adieux a la Reine is a new movie that tells the story of the last few days of Marie Antoinette's life at Versailles. The story is told through the perspective of one of the Queen's maids. Diane Kruger plays the Queen. I am fascinated by this woman and I look forward to seeing the film.
On the train to Versailles... Entertainment AND protection :)
Always look up!
These muted blues and golds... love them!
Hall of mirrors
This picture does not accurately show the beauty of this bed.. The gold, the blues and pinks, the texture, unbelievable.
.. and suddenly we saw this! Made of pots and pans.. thoughts??
NEW DIRECTION at Versailles!
My favorite view
BREATH-TAKING grounds!
What a view!
Pack a picnic if you visit Versailles. You will need to check your bag prior to touring. Panini's are available almost everywhere and you may bring your choice of beverage.
The salmon is wonderful in Paris. It's lightly smoked and is very fresh.
If you're not familiar with French wines, DO ask for help. It seemed like the local folks sipped more white and rose wine during the day, saving the heavy Cabernet for the evening. This Bordeaux was our choice and it was wonderful.
After all the visual stimulation of Versailles :) a bite of something sweet was needed.
This chocolate boutique was off the beaten path (always my favorite places to shop and dine). Lots of character and delicious goodies. Loved these oranges, and the nougats were yummy!

The jars that the candies are displayed in are so pretty. To the front/left are these LONG marshmallows in a variety of colors. How fun for a kids party! They were very good and not too sweet.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Hi Leslie,
ReplyDeleteYour photos of Versailles are amazing, thanks for taking us along too.
All the gold, the gorgeous colours, the mirrors and the gardens are truly beautiful.
I love the look of the chocolate boutique, yum!
Happy new week
Hugs

Hi Leslie -
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos of Versailles!! One of my all time favorite day trips from Paris. I especially love visiting in the summer when the potted citrus trees are brought out.
Cheers,
Loi
Versailles is one of my favorite places even in the dead of winter on a bitterly cold day. Just once I would love to visit when the flowers are blooming. I was there two years ago when giant blow up sculptures graced the halls and I wasn't impressed with their inclusion in this glorious space.
ReplyDeleteDelectable treats are a must after a huge day of breathtaking sightseeing. Lovely photos thanks Leslie.
xx
Leslie ... you photos are gorgeous! You truly captured Versailles and its larger than life beauty. WOW now that is some High Heel!!! We did a half day visit to Versailles when the Mr. and I visited in April/May of 2010 ... You are absolutely correct one needs a full day or more to truly see it all (and then I'm certain not all is seen).
ReplyDeleteYour photos are sending me dreaming of a return visit!! Hugs to you my friend..xo C. (HHL)
Wow really nice...u r so lucky u ghetto visit....love the pics so regal n magnificient

What stunning pictures! The French really know how to do everything in style. What a lovely picnic you must have had in that beautiful setting. x Sharon PS Those chocolate dipped oranges look delicious. I might have to try that at home.
ReplyDeleteWonderful..it's a place I am so wanting to see :))) What beauty and I enjoy learning about Marie...I shall look out for the movie. I'd like to see it from another perspective. Just adore these photos and the sweets look amazing!! Hope you have a wonderful week :)) xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos and you look gorgeous too! When we went the kids were younger and we had a choice between Versailles or Disneyland Paris. Of course, we chose Disneyland Paris for the kids, (which stunk). I regret not going to Versailles but don't regret trying to be unselfish in regards to the kids! xo
ReplyDeleteHello Leslie, thank you for sharing those beautiful photos!I feel like I had a tour at Versailles and then savoured all those delicacies.have yourself a happy week ahead!

First of all ! How fabulous do you look! Loving your gorgeously free Versailles hair and boots! That bedroom is just heaven but my fave shot is the guys on the train - both the guard and the buskers both doing their jobs intently.
ReplyDeletetres jolie, leslie, and thanks for such great tips! cannot wait to visit versailles in october. you look gorgeous and quite natural lounging at the palace!

French interiors are great, espacially chateaux, of course :)I'm interested in the Queen Marie Antoinette. Have You seen the film directed by Sophia Coppola? Great photos! And the sweets... My sideboard is full of jars and platters with cakes and candies. Maybe because of chocolate boutiques like that ;)
ReplyDeleteThank You for taking me to these places, Your trip was wonderful :)

ReplyDeleteThank you sooo much for your lovely "welcome home" comment!
I knew my blogging girl friends would understand and make me feel better!!!!
Oh Versaille - a magical experience, I've been there in winter and summer and both are amazing.
Love the new sculpture of pots and pans - great photo!
The day before I flew out, our family spent the day at Fontainbleau (about an hours drive from where my daughter lives). It was the hunting palace/chateau of the Kings of France.
It was amazing too! I'll be doing a post about it shortly!
Im looking forward to seeing "Les Adieux a la Reine" - lets compare notes once we've seen it!
It seems you and I both have that 'special' thing for France - don't know how but somehow it's always been in my blood and I remember vividly the first time I stpped foot on french soil - somehow I just KNEW I had been there before (another life maybe - who knows)!
love & hugs Leslie and thanks so much for your welcome home!

I love your hair ( and outfit ) in the pic above, I can never manage my hair when I'm away, but yours look so big bouncy and glorious.
ReplyDeleteI've just booked up Paris for December, sheer laziness on our part as we can't be bothered travelling far but want to go somewhere then as we've cancelled our September trip abroad because... we are too lazy to go travelling!
I was thinking the same thing about your hair and your cute outfit! I'm also dying over all of the pictures and just the thought of being there! Maybe one day! Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your amazing jaunt to Versailles! I would love to visit there the next time I got to France. I'm fascinated with Diane Kruger as well and I'm curious to see her portrayal of Marie Antoinette. You know she's gonna look gorgeous in those costumes.

Leslie,
ReplyDeleteThis is so great to get a tour through your eyes. When we visited Paris 2 summers ago, we ended up canceling our plans to visit Versailles. I did have 2 little boys in tow, at the time age 5 & 8, so it was probably better to wait. Now, I want to go more than ever. Looks like you had an amazing time!!!!
xoxo Elizabeth
Beautiful photos Leslie, what an amazing trip you had and the Chocolate Boutique looks simply perfect ;-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the week ahead.

So lovely. Feel like I have had an afternoon-vacation. Haven't been able to visit yet...but I will soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have found you as well.
I've only seen videos from travel channels taking you inside versailles! I know Louis almost bankrupted the French economy while constructing the palace and the hall of mirrors took 10 years. I hope to go to Versailles next time I go to France.
ReplyDeleteBeyond jealous .....no words!
ReplyDeleteWOW - Versailles is breathtaking - would you believe we never made it to the chateau and all those years we lived in Paris!!!! so nice to see your photos - one day . . .

I love this post, especially since I'm going to France for the first time this month! I can't wait to have that salmon.. and the wine.. and so much more! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh Leslie, J & I were just saying how we have to get to Versailles one day soon. I've always wanted to go but unbelievably haven't had the chance on my past visits to France. They have the Versailles Gardens at the resort I stayed at in the Bahamas The One&Only. It as fantastic, 35 acres and also has an imported cloister from France but I know it doesn't compare in the slightest to the actual place. One day I'll get there :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!!

Miranda
Leslie, my favorite book
