This is the story of Lee Rhodes.
It was 1998 and Lee was raising three small children and fighting what would become a seven year battle with a rare form of lung cancer. After surgery and countless hours of chemotherapy, Lee searched for ways to cope with the fear and pain that encompassed her daily life. One day, Lee dropped a tea light into a handmade glass cup and glassybaby was born. The light brought her the peace and serenity that she so badly needed. Soon she scattered these colored glass votives around her home, allowing her to feel hope, healing, love, and warmth.
The studio - simple, serene, peaceful.
I love the simplicity of the exterior. Upon entering I am greeted with a warm smile and lots of glassybaby!

Lee used this mold to create the first glassybaby
This row of glassybaby shows the thousands of dollars that has been donated to charities dedicated to health, healing, and improving quality of life. I can honestly say that these precious icons have strengthened our community as we share memories, give, and receive.
Lee was recently named Entrepreneur of 2011, Entrepreneur Magazine. She is the first woman to win this national award. glassybaby has donated more than $750,000 from sales to charity helping patients with care costs. Watch this video to see how glassybaby has touched lives ..
Interesting things to learn about each glassybaby:
It takes 4 glassblowers from a team of 70 to make ONE glassybaby.
Glassblowers molten glass on a blowpipe and create a bubble. Next, some colored glass is dropped onto the bubble and then rolled over it. A clear layer of glass is gathered over the color, creating a very unique three-layered look.
The glass is then heated again, and dropped into a mold and blown out again to give it height. The glass is then spun and cut into the familiar glassybaby shape.
In the end, each glassybaby gets an official stamp!
.

Each glassybaby is a symbol of hope, inspiring color and light to those living through their darkest moments.

A glassybaby makes a wonderful gift to celebrate a life mile-stone, the birth of a baby, or the perfect hostess gift.
Here are a few of my glassybaby displayed on a table in the living room and also in the kitchen. My preference is to place them in groups of three. If you'd like, you may order glassybaby in sets. With names like water for life, stitched together, let it flow, and cloud nine - how can you resist?
Oh, and by the way! The studio is a pet friendly!
